Rebecca Ellis

Dr Rebecca Ellis is an anthropologist with over 20 years of experience in collaborative interdisciplinary research combining Anthropology, Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Development Studies. Her interest in human – nonhuman relations and interdisciplinarity has inspired research with Amazonian and Andean indigenous communities in Bolivia, with UK amateur naturalists and laboratory and field scientists in the fields of taxonomy, biodiversity and bioinformatics.

She has also worked with DIY biologists, artists and computer scientists in a Citizen Led digital technology prototyping with cosmologists and artists. She relishes working within and managing complex interdisciplinary teams, specialising in the use of ethnographic methods and project evaluation. Rebecca has a decade of experience as a development practitioner working for the UK Department for International Development and national NGOs in South America and other parts of the world, specialising in project evaluation, poverty alleviation and community participation. She speaks French and Spanish. Rebecca was a Senior Lecturer in Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University following 6 years as a researcher in the Sociology Department. She is now a freelance researcher, writer and yoga instructor.
